Usage:
Refractory materials
Flake graphite is widely used in advanced refractory materials and coatings for the gold industry, such as magnesia carbon bricks and crucibles. It is also used as a stabilizer for pyrotechnic materials in the military industry, as a desulfurization accelerator in the smelting industry, as a pencil lead in the light industry, as a carbon brush in the electrical industry, as an electrode in the battery industry, and as a catalyst in the fertilizer industry. After further processing, flake graphite can be used to produce graphite emulsion for lubricants, mold release agents, drawing agents, conductive coatings, etc. It can also produce expanded graphite for flexible graphite products such as flexible graphite seals and flexible graphite composite products.

As a functional filler for coatings, flake graphite is mainly used in anti-corrosion coatings, fireproof coatings, and conductive coatings.
As a corrosion-resistant material, it has good chemical and solvent resistance properties compared to rust-proof primers made from carbon black, talcum powder, and oil. Adding chemical pigments such as zinc yellow to the formulation can further improve its rust-proofing effect.
Expandable graphite is used as a fireproof filler. It is a graphite intercalation compound obtained from natural graphite flakes through chemical or electrochemical treatment. Under heated conditions, the volume of expandable graphite expands rapidly (up to 300 times), suffocating the flame and generating an expanding substance, which can isolate the flame, delay or interrupt the flame spread, and is non-flammable, with good softness, high surface energy, and good strength of carbonization layer. However, the volume and dosage of the expanding body should be appropriately selected. Experiments have shown that 150um particles, 30% expansion ratio, and 5% dosage are the most suitable.
Flake graphite can be directly used as a carbon conductive filler or made into a composite conductive filler for conductive coatings. However, due to the large amount of graphite flakes added, the performance of the coating becomes brittle, which limits its application. Therefore, measures should be taken to further improve the conductivity of graphite and effectively reduce the amount of graphite flakes added. The Tianhua Chemical Machinery Research Institute has developed a high-temperature corrosion-resistant resin as the base material, using large flake-like solid graphite flakes with strong electrostatic conductivity as the main aggregate, and high body strength and good wear resistance.
The short fiber material with good resistance to deformation and cracking is a solvent-free thick film conductive coating with functional fillers. The coating has the characteristics of resistance to corrosion medium penetration, low residual stress during curing, good resistance to deformation and cracking of the substrate, stable construction performance, and long-term static conductivity. It can be used for electrostatic coating of the inner wall of crude oil storage tanks. According to the data report, using electroless plating technology to plate metal, such as copper, nickel, silver, etc., on graphite powder to prepare composite conductive fillers, and using 30% of it in the conductive coating, not only has good conductivity, but also further improves the corrosion resistance.
